Joy Faith Stories (Page 4)
(as written down by Rosalie Joy-one of my aunts)

Wayne had to have his appendix out when he was 14. The doctor botched the operation up (not the only one he botched), and was going to let Wayne die, so he could bury his mistake. Grandma Carrie Joy demanded another opinion, and they got Dr. Spear from Dodge City down to Fowler to perform another surgery. Wayne’s abdomen was distended, and the head nurse at Fowler told Grandpa and Grandma she was glad they were operating that night, because she didn’t think Wayne would last until morning. When Dr. Spear opened Wayne up, blood shot clear to the ceiling. Because the x-ray machine in Fowler wouldn’t work, they moved Wayne to Dodge City Hospital (praise God). That night a nurse took wonderful care of Wayne. He was sweating so much that she changed the bed 6 times. Each time, she would roll him over very gently. She would check in on him without Wayne or Grandpa Joy even calling. Wayne was far too sick to call anyway. While all this was happening, Grandma Joy was home asking God if it was okay to pray for healing for Wayne. She asked God to show her a sign. The next morning, their favorite pet cow was dead. The way Grandma interpreted that was that God took the cow, and would spare Wayne.
Wayne’s fever broke by morning, and he was sitting up on the edge of his bed, making model cars. Grandpa went to find the nurse to thank her for taking such good care of Wayne. When he told them her name at the nurses’ station, they looked at their roster and said, “We don’t have a nurse by that name.” God provided an angel to care for Wayne.
